I use this EVERY TIME I start the novel. I don't give the kids a lot of background about the book so when they discover the "truth" it is shocking to them.
I pass this out then assign chapter 1 and 2. We go over side one and talk about why their are "weird" terms. Then I assign 3 and 4 and the kids complete the opposite side of the worksheet. We discuss that side the following day.
It is a really easy way for the kids to organize their thoughts and make predictions about the bizarre setting and plot.
Directions: At first, this sounds like a perfectly normal world...just a little odd, but peaceful and quiet. But the people use some unusual terms to tip you off that this is not really our world. Use context clues in the book to define each of these words:
