Have students take notes chapter by chapter as they read The Giver by Lois Lowry. Each chapter has its own note taking page, along with notetaking guidelines for the big ideas. Cornell notes are a great structure for students to learn and help them stay organized. My students would read and take notes for homework, and then return to class the next day ready to do a variety of activities to help them comprehend and analyze what they read. For those of you who use the flipped classroom model, this is a must have!
