This literacy unit teaches students about generosity! Use these lessons and activities with your Kindergarten, first grade, or second grade students around Thanksgiving, Christmas, or Valentine's Day.

Do your students believe that giving always involves gifts? This unit for K-2 children will help them expand upon their understanding of what it means to give to others.

The unit works great around Thanksgiving, Christmas/winter holidays, or Valentine's Day, but can be taught during any time of the year.

In this unit, you will teach 10 literacy-based lessons that help students understand that there are many different ways to give.

Through readalouds and writing activities, students will learn that people can give gifts, help, and kind words to each other.

Students will practice giving by creating coupon books for their families (these make great Thanksgiving, Christmas, or Valentine’s Day gifts!). They will also plan and implement a very simple community service project.

The lessons include materials and suggestions for differentiation to meet the varying needs of K-2 students. The unit may take 2-3 weeks, depending upon how long your community service project lasts.

Following the lesson plans are some supplementary materials - a poster with important vocabulary words, a poem, a printable reader for students, and a reading passage with questions.
