The Giving Tree Holiday Kindness Lesson w 3 videos Character Ed PBIS
"The Giving Tree" is a classic story written by Shel Silverstein and is one of my favorites. It tells the story of a boy and a tree who love each other. It describes the importance of love as opposed to material things. I love this lesson and believe that it will become a yearly favorite of my students.
This PowerPoint lesson has 17 slides and includes links to 3 videos, one of which is a video of Shel Silverstein reading the book aloud. The character education lesson helps to teach the importance of caring for others as much or more than caring for yourself and the importance of kindness in this world.
This lesson is perfect for nearly any time of the year, but it is especially perfect for the holiday season, or Mother’s Day or Father’s Day. Combine this with a campaign of Random Acts of Kindness. http://www.spreadkindness.org You can obtain free Random Acts of Kindness cards or download them. There are many other ideas to use to go along with the lesson that can be modified to fit nearly every age level.
I would schedule a minimum of 45 minutes for this lesson.
The PowerPoint is customizable and has a master slide that can be copied to make your own slides to personalize the lesson for your students and teaching style. The presentation includes both animations and transitions to hold your students' interest. Make your lesson come alive for your students and help them to connect to the concept in a fun way that will help them to remember the important lessons you need for them to remember.
