The Giving Tree: a classic story written by Shel Silverstein is a wonderful book to read to your students as a literary tie in to a science unit. This resource is a great follow up writing activity that asks your students to draw and label things that we get from trees. Some examples could include: paper, air, shade, fruit, etc.
Student responsese can be hung up around the classroom, sent home for families to discuss, or compiled into a class book for your library. Students always enjoy repeating known activities on their own in writing centers, and this would be an easy one to pop right in!
