Prior to reading The Glass Castle, students will research how much living in the real world actually costs. First, they will choose an occupation, make a list of everyday expenses, and then determine how feasible living on one's own actually is (or is not!).
Next, students will view the documentary, 30 Days - Living on Minimum Wage (link provided on worksheet), and answer the comprehension questions.
These activities set the stage for the harsh and rustic living conditions experienced by the Walls family in The Glass Castle.
Video guide answer key is provided.
This activity can also be purchased in The Glass Castle Teacher's Bundle
