This comprehensive test will gauge readers' understanding of the story's basic elements and details. There are 100 test questions, each with four answer choices. Answer key is included.
The test questions move in chronological order of the book, and there is at least one question from each section or episode of the book.
Many questions reflect upon the students' understanding of basic literary elements like plot, setting, irony, imagery, and characterization.
Many questions include direct quotes from the book and there are direct references which include suggestive content (words like "whore" and "ass" are used in the questions/answers).
I have used this test as a final test for checking for basic understanding of the book's content in my ENGL 1102 college composition courses. Essentially, there is nothing on this test that pertains to my own lectures or classroom teaching; every question is taken directly from the content of Jeanette Walls' novel.
There are no identifying marks on this test that have my name or my course listed. It simply reads "The Glass Castle Book Test" across the top. The test itself is a 21 page PDF download. The answer key is an additional three pages.
