As a sixth grade teacher, I am often frustrated by the high reading level of our Language textbooks. The exercises are fine for my students that are reading on or above grade level, but my struggling readers have trouble mastering grammar skills because the textbook sentences are too long and complex.
Grammar Grasshopper is a fun way for students to practice grammar skills at a lower reading level.
These activities are perfect for:
-Special Education students
-English Language Learners
-Reluctant or struggling readers
-Literacy centers or small group work
-Students who are learning about nouns for the first time
-Students who need additional review and practice
-Students who need homework that is interesting and easy to understand
These materials are flexible; you do not need to use them in order. You can pull out just the pages you need. Also, these pages can be printed in color or black and white. The reference sheets can be used as posters, anchor charts, or added to student notebooks. The worksheets can be used as whole class activities or for a few students who need extra practice. At the end of the packet are “test” worksheets which can be used as “final” assessments or additional practice.
For a little extra fun, I’ve included a “Noun Expert” certificate which can used to recognize student improvement. Be sure to check out the “Create Your Own Comic Strip” activity. My students love writing their own stories about G.G. For an extra challenge, you can require students to include certain types of nouns in their comic strips.
The comic strip page, reference sheets, and certificate of completion are designed so you can print them in color or in black and white. There are 4 reference sheets, and different worksheets for each section. Use the table of contents so you can determine exactly what you want to print.
