Grammar - the series.
Every teacher needs a good grammar textbook for reference purposes. This series of ten PowerPoints tackling the main grammatical categories serves that purpose but in a fun and engaging manner. It can be used to simply instruct students about nouns or verbs or the structure of a sentence. The versatility of the format, however, allows teachers to choose what is to be addressed - even within a category. Thus, it does not have to be approached in a linear manner. The index at the beginning of each presentation allows teachers to choose the focus.
The PowerPoints can also be used on laptops or other digital tools giving students the independence to discover for themselves or refresh their understanding.
Other advantages over a textbook include the colour and movement, the sound and the voice-over explaining terms.
Each PowerPoint differs in length because of the concepts being addressed. The presentation on The Conjunction has only nine slides. The presentation of The Sentence has twenty-two.
The overview contains references to the Common Core criteria. Grade two literacy expect students to understand certain terms and this is the perfect instrument to begin that instruction. The funny thing is that I have had occasion to use the material with my Year 12 students who claimed to have never been taught grammar properly. Thus, the resource serves to instruct, lay the foundation for the terminology, to give examples but also serve as an ongoing reference tool that students can use to reaffirm and consolidate learning.
