This culminating activity asks students to compare/contrast Springsteen's album, The Ghost of Tom Joad, with The Grapes of Wrath. The following question guides the project: "What do you believe to be Bruce Springsteen’s purpose for writing this album? What rhetorical strategies does he implement to achieve this purpose?"
Students listen to the album, annotate the lyrics, and write a rhetorical analysis of one song from the album. All this culminates in a discussion of the similar themes that the album and novel share.
Include are directions for the project, the lyrics for every song, and links to listening to the album for free on youtube.
