This is part of Reading Through History's unit covering the Great Depression. In this download there are four separate lessons dealing with the movies and popular entertainers of the 1930s. The first covers the blockbuster movies of the 1930s, including the Wizard of Oz and Gone With the Wind. The following three lessons include separate biographies for Bing Crosby, Shirley Temple, and Will Rogers, including descriptions of what these entertainers meant to the American public during that difficult era. For each lesson there is a one page reading activity followed by reading comprehension questions, guided reading activities, vocabulary activities, student summaries, and a student response essay or research question. This download includes enough material to cover three to four days in a standard 50 minute class.
