The Great Fraction Race is designed to reinforce the Common Core standards for fractions. The activity is a combination of a relay race/scavenger hunt. There are enough questions for up to 13 groups to participate at one time, so most teachers will be able to have groups of two. Fractions covered are halves, thirds, fourths, fifths, sixths, eighths, and tenths. This is a fun activity that will culminate in the solving of a riddle that will be given to each group by their teacher. Students will initially be given a group of fraction questions from their teacher. After reading the fractions, students are to go to a table to collect the accompanying picture card. Once each group has collected their picture cards, they solve the puzzle on back. The puzzle will be assembled by the group which, in turn, will result in a riddle pack being given to the group. The fraction clues inside the riddle pack will be used to solve the riddle. This is fun for everyone as they reinforce fractions and learn up to 13 fun riddles too.
