What is it about The Great Gatsby story that has caused Hollywood to make and re-make a film version six times since 1926? And three of those versions debuted in the last 13 years! It's worth considering.
This product assesses student understanding of the characters, themes, symbols, and motifs over Chapters I-VII. The first section has been introduced as a journal activity but can be used as a summative project, as well. Any part of this product can be challenging, so you may choose to use a word bank to play games or do reviews; and/or a dictionary and/or the novel for the "interpretation" part. There are actually four separate parts to this product to be used as you see fit dependent on the ability range of your students. Feel free to use the product cover art as an activity, as long as you give credit to the artist, Stephen Ryan Lewis at srlew2.deviantart.com.
NOTE: To pique student interest and increase retention, it may be valuable to have students read the interesting sections – especially dialogue – aloud in class as if the story is a kind of soap opera.
