This folder contains everything you will ever need for the teaching The Great Gatsby. To begin with, there is a mini unit on modernism, along with a short story and poem to establish groundwork for Gatsby.
With the Gatsby unit, there are several quizzes (and different versions of some chapter quizzes) that require higher order thinking (as opposed to plot quizzes). Most importantly, there are many text dependent questions that require critical thinking and depth of understanding. In addition, you will find many daily assignments that deal with close reading in other forms, such as looking for evidence, or rewriting scenes. The film is not directly dealt with, but is integrated into some assignments--I usually show this as I go. My objectives for this book are usually formed around language, style, and tone with an overarching emphasis on theme in the modernist age and how literature is the ultimate barometer for culture.
For assessments, you will find two different types of research essays. I do not have an essay for, but also include notes on Aristotle's Tragic Hero-- an analysis of form and structure would make a great essay!
