These questions guide students through a close analysis of chapter one of F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel The Great Gatsby. Students work through the text, focusing on analyzing characters, building symbolism and themes, identifying tone / sarcasm, analyzing word choice, and using textual evidence. The questions can be used for individual analysis or small- or whole-group discussion of the text. They can also be left for substitutes!
