Get your students critically thinking during Chapter 6 of F. Scott Fitzgerald's American classic The Great Gatsby with these close read learning stations or group work. This activity contains 5 key excerpts from Chapter 6. Each excerpt is accompanied by 2 critical thinking questions designed to get students thinking about the most important aspects of this important chapter. Also, for fun, each excerpt is titled with a fun hashtag (Example: #TransformationTuesday: Gatz to Gatsby).
As stated, this can be facilitated as learning stations or jigsaw-style group work. For stations, simply set up these 5 excerpts around the room, group students, and rotate the stations on a desired time schedule. For group work, group students and assign each group an excerpt that they must then later present to the class. If you do assign this as group work, you can use it to scaffold, as some excerpts/questions are a bit more lengthy/complex than others. It works well both ways. Just choose what fits the needs of you and your students. :)
The actual product is an 8-page PDF, with 5 excerpts/stations, 1 group work sheet, and 2 stations sheets.
