Have some fun with Chapter 6 of F. Scott Fitzgerald's American classic The Great Gatsby with this engaging close reading activity. Seriously, you need to have some fun, because even though I am OBSESSED with Gatsby, I will admit that Chapter 6 is dry. My students usually complain that it is boring or confusing or both, so I've found that I really have to spice it up to keep their attention leading up to the doozy that is Chapter 7.
In this activity, students will closely read 5 different key excerpts, all which center on the Gatz --> Gatsby transformation and Gatsby's dream of a life with Daisy...and which center on the different days of the week #hashtags on Instagram...aka #MotivationMonday, #TransformationTuesday, #WomanCrushWednesday, #ThrowbackThursday, and #FlashbackFriday.
Just an FYI: This is labeled a Chapter 6 activity, because that's when I do it, and that's where the reading passages are from. You could easily do this as fun activity any time after Chapter 6, or as a post-reading activity to help scaffold an analysis of symbolism/theme/etc.
