A "Choice Box" is a differentiation method defined by choice. Teachers create different boxes within a "choice board" for students to complete based on their interest level. For Chapter 7 of The Great Gatsby, the choices include: one mandatory box to be completed about symbolism/the "eyes of Dr. T.J. Eckleberg, as well as choices regarding annotations, vocabulary, color imagery, allusions, and the weather motif. Each box focuses on an important element of the English Language Arts curriculum. Whether used as a homework or classwork assignment, teachers can utilize the ChoiceBox method to then jigsaw student responses and cover all of the content.
