By the time students get to Chapter 7 of the novel, I notice that some of my students begin to resort to skimming or Sparknotes. How do I combat this issue? A storyboard! I’ve intentionally selected four passages from Chapter 7 for students to reread and analyze. The end result will look like a comic with four drawings, four lines, and four sections of their own inferences or explanations. My students usually have fun with this activity and see so much more in the novel on the second reading! Typically, I use this as an independent reading quiz (anticipate about 45-60 minutes of class time). Enjoy!
This activity includes the following:
1) A page with directions and passages for analysis
2) A handout for students to draw and explain their storyboards
3) A detailed rubric for easy grading
4) A suggestions key to make grading easier
