Color Symbolism adds so much depth and beauty to The Great Gatsby!
This activity is eight pages of discussion and questions about color symbolism in The Great Gatsby.
I've provided discussion of color symbolism for eleven colors and light and dark imagery.
Students are provided with excerpts and quotes from the text that illustrate the effect of the imagery.
Often they are asked to identify the imagery and discuss how symbolism enhances characterization and setting.
I have students complete this activity in pairs after we complete discussion of the novel.
Many times they are amazed at the contribution the color symbolism makes to the novel and their understanding of the characters.
Citations refer to the 2004 Scribner Publication of the novel.
Font is clear and space is provided for student responses.
Created with Microsoft 07, editable.

It's a great way to check students' understanding after completing this assignment.
