This multiple-choice and writing test for The Great Gatsby takes the students I teach about 40 minutes to complete. It has 40 multiple-choice questions with matching characters, plot questions, reading comprehension with literary device questions, and true-false questions from the book. The last section of the assessment is a 10-sentence paragraph with quotes from the memoir that the students use to explain the themes and symbolism in the book (I count this as 20 points and the students only use the graphic organizer for the paragraph to write on). Personally, I use holistic grading for the paragraph. There are two paragraph questions on two different pages to alternate with classes, so make sure you do not print both or the students will be asking you which question to answer. The total points for the test is 100.
PDFs, MacOS Pages, and Microsoft Word files included for the test, paragraph outline, and answer key.
