This activity is designed to inspire students to read the novel, The Great Gatsby and prepare themselves for the possible themes and characterization therein. There are nine quoted comments by contemporary authors (Dana Spiotta, Jonathan Dee, Jennifer Egan) expressing what they love about The Great Gatsby. They are all quite unique sentiments. Students are asked to choose one of the comments and answer questions such as, From the quote, can you discern a theme that might be addressed in the novel?

What do you anticipate your feelings about Jay Gatsby will be? There are seven questions. The activity is two pages and one page is a creative cover page. I use clear font and several appropriate graphics.
