This is a final exam that involves explaining significant moments in The Great Gatsby. These quotes are pulled from the companion study sheets that are also listed in the store.
Each exam includes 4 important quotes and one bonus quote for extra credit. The student is asked to identify:
*SPEAKER OF THE QUOTE
*WHAT THE QUOTE IS REFERENCING
*SIGNIFICANCE OF THE QUOTE
Overall, this is a higher level thinking activity. Ideally, this test would be given after discussion and guidance about the significance of these events throughout the class. For younger students, it would be wise to model a proper answer so the students understand finding the significance of the quote, rather than just giving plot summary.
You can use the three versions to avoid cheating in a class or to give to multiple classes (so first period does not pass the quotes to fifth period-ugghhhh). You could also use the extra versions for make-up tests.
Keys are included; however, your in class discussions will be the foundation for their answers. Therefore, modifications might be needed.
