This journal assignment is a way for students to reflect and analyze the events and characters throughout The Great Gatsby. The assignment sheet outlines the guidelines and format that students will follow when creating a journal for each chapter. The requirements include four parts that ask students to summarize and reflect on specific characters, events, and quotes from each chapter, while providing personal narrative about the text.
Depending on your timeline and how your class is structured, you can have students complete a journal for each chapter (since there are only 9 chapters) or select chapters. I've posted the assignment as a .docx file so that you can make adjustments to the requirements and the number of journal assignments that you intend to collect.
This product includes an assignment sheet with directions and procedures, a sample journal, so that students can see what a finished assignment should look like, as well as a rubric for assessing the journal assignments.
