Have a little fun testing your students' knowledge of F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel The Great Gatsby, with this interactive grid game activity. Working independently, in pairs, as a small group, or as a class, students will roll dice to select words related to the chapter on a grid. Students then make connections using these random words.
Print the grids on different colored paper to differentiate and laminate to make them last longer. You will need a bunch of dice or access to the internet, where you can roll dice online (random.org/dice). If you don’t want students playing with dice (because of school rules or lack of dice), you can project the online dice roller.
Detailed directions, examples, and options for playing the game are included, along with grids for each chapter, as well as the novel overall. A separate list of ideas on how to have students share the connections they make with their words is also included.
The grids can be used as bell-ringers, exit slips, group work, quizzes, or as a review game.
