I always get a lot of student reaction to this POWERPOINT.
In a POWERPOINT format, this presentation is used after Chapter Two of The Great Gatsby as a way of giving students a picture of the wealth and style of the characters in the novel. Many of my students have never been to New York or experience the wealth of these characters. Most have never heard of the sport of polo. This powerpoint gets them up to speed and creates a picture for them as they move along to West Egg and Gatsby's parties in Chapter Three.
The presentation show students what the author and his wife rented for a year in West Nyak (Long Island), New York and became the inspiration for the pivotal scenes in The Great Gatsby and Tender Is the Night. The mansion was sold in the late 1990's and put up for market again in 2007 after the market crash.
