Product Description

These graphic organizers help students prepare for a trial activity when they've finished reading The Great Gatsby. The question of the trial is: Who is responsible for the deaths of Myrtle Wilson, Jay Gatsby, and George Wilson? Assign students to a trial team: either the defense lawyers for Daisy, the defense lawyers for Tom, the defense lawyers for Gatsby (yes, he comes back to life for the sake of the trial), and a prosecution team. These graphic organizers help students prepare for the trial by selecting textual evidence that either shows their defendant's innocence or proves the guilt of another defendant. The prosecution team's graphic organizer guides them through writing higher level, text-dependent questions to propel the trial forward. This resource helps to ensure that the trial is fun and engaging but also high-level and text-centered. It is provided in a Word document so that it can be modified to meet your classroom's needs.
