This powerpoint has two sections. The first is an introduction to F. Scott Fitzgerald and the Jazz Age. The second section introduces the larger literary and artistic movement that The Great Gatsby is part of. This powerpoint situates the novel (and other modernist art) at the point of transition between 19th and 20th century values.
I use this powerpoint to set up my unit on The Great Gatsby. However, the section on modernism is separate, and can easily be used for any modernist literature, such as Ernest Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises or the poetry of T.S. Eliot.
This powerpoint makes use of images, quotes, and outside sources to give students a working knowledge of the era immediately after World War I.
