The Great Invention Convention - Persuasive Writing Booklet
In this fun and creative booklet, students get to use their imaginations to create their own invention to sell to the world!
This writing assignment focuses on the process of persuasive writing by having students write two paragraphs dedicated to their invention. In the first paragraph, students write their opinion about an everyday problem and then create an invention to fix that issue. In the second paragraph, students try to persuade the reader to buy their product by stating how their product fixes the issue.
An example given in the booklet is as follows:
Problem: My phone always dies when I am out
Opinion: When my phone dies, it is very frustrating and inconvenient.
Invention: The remote-control phone charger to charge your phone on demand
Why you should buy my product:
1. By pressing a button, your phone is automatically charging. No need for wires or outlets.
2. The remote has a timer that can be set to start charging your phone when it is almost dead.
3. The remote does not use any batteries or electricity so it saves energy.
Booklet includes writing assignment outline, rubric, graphic organizers, persuasive writing worksheets, and sentence structure outline for students to use before drafting.
Make it come to life by having a real invention convention! Have your students create a replica of their inventions along with a brochure to persuade staff and students to buy it!
