Can your Native American Tribe survive the harsh Eastern Washington Winters?
This game would be a great compliment to any Native American Unit! It give students a sense of what it might have been like trading supplies with other tribes.
The game includes four Easter Washington Tribes: Palouse, Spokane, Nez Perce, and Kalispel. The goal of the game is for each Tribal member (delineated by headbands) to earn as many points as you can by visiting six stations/tables on which contain a different category of supply items to collect: Food, Clothing, Shelter, Cooking, Medicine, and Weapons.
There are 5 timed rounds. During the first round the students move around each of the station 6 stations and roll a pair of dice to collect supply items and to see which table they need to visit next. During rounds #2-#4, tribe members trade with other tribes for any item that they are missing. In order to survive the harsh Eastern Washington Winter each Tribe must have at least 2 cards in each category. During round #5, students add up/count all of the numbers values on their supply item cards and then are ranked in their tribe according to the total value of the cards. When the game is over the students earn a certain number of feathers according to their Tribal Ranking Chart: Chief, Warrior, Medicine Man, Hunter, Scout, Story Teller. Student then attach the feathers to their headband that they have been wearing during the game.
