The Great Poetry Race Unit is a unit centered around building reading fluency through poetry using an activity called "The Great Poetry Race." (Includes 10 files below)

1) The Great Poetry Race Letter: A letter to send home to parents explaining "The Great Poetry Race" which is an activity to build reading fluency through the use of poems.
2) The Great Poetry Race Signature Sheet: A page for students to collect signatures each time they read the poem to someone.
3) The Great Poetry Race Punch Cards: Students earn a punch each time they read their poem to ten people. Once ten punches are earned, students receive an award.
4) The Great Poetry Race Tracker: A grid for teachers to keep track of students and the number of "reads" they acquire each week.
5) The Great Poetry Race Champion Certificate: A certificate awarded to The Great Poetry Race champion each week.
6) The Great Poetry Race Medals: Medals to award to The Great Poetry Race champion each week.
7) The Great Poetry Race Reward Coupons: Coupons that allow the weekly champion to share his/her good news with the principal, parents, another teacher, or themselves.
8) The Great Poetry Race Hall of Fame Sign: Post this sign in the classroom and list champions' names under it to showcase weekly winners!
9) Revving Up our Fluency Banner: A 2-page banner to hang over a display (such as a track) for The Great Poetry Race!
10) The Great Poetry Race Car: A race car for students to decorate and record his/her highest number of reads. The teacher may display these on a large track in the classroom!
