This collaborative literacy project is the perfect cure for the January blues! The project is based upon the popular book, Snowballs, by Lois Ehlert. The students read the book, create their own 3D snowy sculptures, and create a descriptive writing piece based on their snowmen. Classes can then switch writing pieces and read closely to use specific details from the text in an attempt to re-create the snowy creatures. The students learn valuable lessons about the importance of details, close reading, and revising to meet their audience's needs. This project has multiple extensions that allow the entire school to join in the fun!
