PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

OBJECTIVE: To help students at home or in school enjoy learning about writing about states of matter.

ACTIVITY: No prep needed other than to print off copies of this packet of a short story about leprechauns trying to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a water balloon fight, until it’s spoiled by a misunderstanding of solids, liquids, and gases.

Print off copies of the above packet and place the copies in your centers or whole group.

Use your students’ or child’s performance data to determine which ones are ready to move on and which need to be pulled into small group for reteaching.

Once he or she has shown mastery of identifying and writing about states of matter have them color the student evidence Happy St. Patrick’s Day coloring sheet and have them proudly post it on the wall or fridge.

MATERIALS: Besides crayons/colored pencils to color their student artifact/evidence of learning, none, just print off the copies of this activity that you need.

RESOURCE/TEXT: No text is necessary. However, the text used in this class comes from Science Fusion, a Houghton Mifflin Harcourt resource and the Core Connections writing program
