After my students are able to retell narratives including all elements of story grammar, the next skill I like to work on is generating creative ideas to produce original narratives. I love working on this skill because the kids get excited and it gives them a chance to be creative. Additionally, they learn how to generate ideas that are logical, related, and cohesive.
This activity begins with a story that sets the scene for a turkey escape! The students are challenged to come up with the Turkey’s PLAN/PLOT to escape. They are given the character, setting, problem, and plan and must come up with a sequence of attempts, tie-up, and resolution.
