How to Use:
Each year, my students struggle to understand how to solve “part unknown” math problems. I wanted to create a fun
workstation that will help them practice this skill. More importantly, I wanted it to be self-checking so that my students knew if they were solving correctly or not.
This workstation is the perfect solution! Students use clothespins to cover the answer while they try to solve the “Great Unknown” using whatever method they like best.
I like to create a mini-poster with my students as I introduce this station. On it, we make a short list of a fw different ways to find the “Great Unknown.” I put this mini poster into the box with the station for them to reference.
What You Need:
1. A copy of the workmat for each student at the workstation
2. Twelve clothespins
3. Dry-Erase markers
4. Something to erase with
How to Play:
1. Get a work mat, a marker, and an eraser
