Included in this packet are three sheets for students to complete. The first is a poem written by teacher, Shannon Gold to teach students about the greater than and less than math symbols. Students read the poem and illustrate it. There are also two practice sheets to complete on the topic.
I teach number relation symbols (greater than and less than) using the Greedy Duck analogy. Essentially, Greedy Duck is so greedy that he only eats larger numbers because he always wants the most. I tell students to think about the open part of the symbol () as Greedy Duck's mouth opening to eat the largest number. This analogy works everytime and students get it right away. I rarely have to spend more than two or three days on this topic using this analogy.
