This lesson, together with the help from The Greedy Triangle, is a fun way to challenge students to think outside of the box in order to discover their algebraic capabilities. Through inquiry based-learning, students work together to become problem solvers by creating data charts and displays. It is within these displays, that students discover algebraic formulas and how they relate to real life situations. Even though this activity is specifically geared toward polygon measures, it can easily be adapted to other situations.
Within this download, you will receive the lesson plan with a link to a read aloud copy of the book, copy of a shape matrix, a Smart Notebook file for whole group instruction, and a student sample copy of the final product.
This activity is specifically coded for 6th grade CCSS, but is very beneficial to other grade levels.
