February 2nd is Groundhog Day, and this 38 page resource is packed full of interactive activities to teach your students about groundhogs. This package includes a ‘Groundhog Question Booklet’ which contains a wealth of information about groundhogs. This booklet is designed to help students with their research conserning groundhogs. Also included in this resource package is a groundhog themed: word search, vocabulary cards and activities, interactive fact foldables, posters, a think pair and share activity, and a create a post card activity. Students will inquire about groundhogs by creating a poster advertising groundhog day which comes with a graphic organizer and a self/teacher assessment page. And lastly, students will use their creative writing skills to write a groundhog day story. I have included all of the directions, graphic organizers, and assessment pages needed for students to be successful with all included activities.
Learning outcomes of this unit are:
-To be able to identify the natural habitat, life cycle, and diet of the groundhog.
-To be able to identify why groundhogs are considered a pest.
-To learn more about the history behind Groundhog Day.
