This starts with two maps around thirty years apart to compare railroad milage and locations. Second page map has students look closer at the rail lines, timezones, and key towns involved in the railroads. Finally students will read a short excerpt about Grangers with a visual and a political cartoon to interpret the subsequent commerce act. All sections have questions and normally takes around 15-25 minutes to complete.I usually pair students up, but not really necessary. I included a pretty exhaustive answer key which goes a little deeper than my textbook does- which is why I created this. I couldn't find a good activity which pulled together railroad expansion with the backlash which came from it.
