One of my favorite books to read around Halloween is The Hallo-Wiener, by Dav Pilkey! This is a hilarious story about Oscar a dog that dreams of wearing a scary costume on Halloween and must wear a hot dog costume his mother made him. He's of course teased (he's already a wiener dog) and doesn't have a fun Halloween. The bully dogs get scared and end up in a predicament that they need to be rescued and who might the hero end up to be? Your students will love to hear about how Oscar saves the day!
