Need something fun and educational to celebrate Halloween? This activity may be just what you’re looking for!
This activity requires students to read a bunch of clues and fill in a table to organize the clues so they can determine which suspect is the ghastly ghost. Using the clues, the students should be able to determine if it is Billy, Juan, Lorena, Hailey, or Logsdon who is dressing up as a ghost and scaring kids on Halloween night.
The crime itself is fairly easy to solve, the real work comes when the students write their CER. This part of the worksheet looks like this:
After completing the reading and note-taking, you must determine who the ghastly ghost is. You must write your answer and prove it using CER.
C = your claim. Who is the ghastly ghost?
E = Evidence. You must discuss all the evidence against the suspect you think is the ghost and evidence explaining why it can’t be the other suspects
R =Reasoning. This ties it all together. What is the evidence telling you?
