PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Here at The Make-Your-Own Hamburger Hut, your students have the opportunity to make their own hamburgers out of the ingredients given. It is designed to be a fun and interactive tactile activity - to target certain grammatical structures and assist spoken language development (such as expressing opinions, group communication, questioning) and parts of speech (pronunciation, vocabulary, accuracy, fluency and intonation).

The structures you can use this with are basically endless. The most striking include:

* Expressing likes and dislikes (early learners or ESL beginners) (’I like cheese’, ‘I don’t like beetroot on my hamburger’);
* Expressing opinion (intermediate level students) (‘I don’t think it is right to eat meat’ ‘I think egg on hamburgers is weird’);
* Food vocabulary (lettuce, tomatoes, cheese etc) (early learners or ESL beginners);
* Asking questions (early learners or ESL beginners) (‘Do you like cheese?’ ‘Would you like mustard on your hamburger?’);
* Colours (early learners or ESL beginners);
* Discussion of cultural differences and food preferences (intermediate students);
* Countable and uncountable nouns (much vs many) (‘I don’t like much mustard’ ‘I only want a few pickles’);
* Prepositions of place (under, over, on top of, on etc) (early learners or ESL beginners); and
* Superlatives and comparatives (bigger than, the biggest etc);
* Ordering food target language (‘I would like..’ ‘Can I please have…’ etc).

The pictures are provided as resizable pngs, so you can use them on a smart board or, for a more tactile activity, print, laminate and cut them out (then they can be re-used!). Students can then make hamburgers for each other or themselves. (Maybe even run a restaurant!)

They have been hand-drawn in a fun cartoon style to make them more appealing. And yes, I am Australian, so I have included pineapple and beetroot, but that's something else you can discuss with your students! (;

Contains pngs of each ingredient individually, a png of a hamburger, a ready to print pdf with all the ingredients, a coversheet and an introduction sheet. All images are proportional.

I hope you enjoy this! I had a lot of fun with its prototype with ESL students in Japan. There were lots of giggles and more importantly, something to bring out those confident speaking skills.
