Pg. 6 Use It! - use your vocabulary words in a paragraph/short story
Pg. 7 Roll and Spell! – roll the dice to see how many times to write your spelling word
Pg. 8-9 Time to Harvest Your Spelling Words! – unscramble your spelling words and write them underneath each piece of corn – color the corn depending on their consonant spellings
Pg. 10-12 My Comprehension Flip It! – copy pages A and B back to back – fold on the solid line and cut on the dotted lines – answer the questions and illustrate it
Pg. 13-17 Ghostly Letters1 – copy pages A and B back to back – add the haunted house pockets to the inside of the book – cut out the ghosts – write words that start with kn and wr on the ghosts – put them into the correct pockets in the book
Pg. 18-20 Harvest Time! – fill out three details from the story on the corn – write the conclusion on the basket – color it and place the corn in the basket
Pg. 21-23 Multiple Meaning Words! – cut out the corn cards – put the cards face down in a pile – choose a card and read the word on the card – write the word in the first basket on your chart – write a sentence on either side of the word to show two different meanings of the word – help students look up the word in a dictionary if they need help – keep selecting cards until the chart is complete
Pg. 24 What Experiment Would You Try if You Were a Farmer? – a chance to respond in writing
Pg. 25-26 Let’s Plan a Party! – the students will practice writing sentences with commas in a series while planning a party – they will be deciding who to invite, what to eat, and what activities to do
Pg. 27-35 Writing and craft activity – What dreams are in their heads? – copy patterns onto appropriate colored paper – glue the face at the bottom of the hat, copy off eyes or have the students create their own eyes out of construction paper for a more unique look – add the mouth and nose with crayons – add the hair by cutting pieces off the rectangular black shape that is copied off with the bird parts – look at image to see how it is put together
