Product Description

The Hate U Give is the 2018 film based off of Angie Thomas' book by the same name. The film follows Starr, a 16 year old, who witnesses the shooting of her unarmed friend by a police officer. The film looks at her life during the aftermath of her loss and her learning to use her voice in the process. The film stars Amandla Stenberg, Regina Hall, Anthony Mackie, Common, Russell Hornsby, Algee Smith, and K.J. Apa.

This film could be used in a variety of classes. You could use it in a Literature course after reading the book. It could be used for Social Psychology when discussing racism and discrimination. It is also a film that could be used in Sociology during the Race and Ethnicity unit or for a Law & Justice course when examining the stories of Eric Garner, Trayvone Martin, Tamir Rice, and the Black Lives Matter Movement.
