Description

This is a set of three supplementary worksheets for a novel study of The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. This is by no means a complete novel study and should be used in conjunction with a study of the novel in order to strengthen student understandings.

This set includes:

Character Sheet:
This character sheet has students cite textual evidence, write what they know about characters as it happens, and determine who the hero and villain are, along with what the overarching theme of the novel is. This sheet is good for note taking during a class read or as homework for independent readings of the novel.

Plot Chart:

The plot chart has students write down the exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and denouement. Along with this, students are given questions on how the sequence of events in the novel contribute to the tone, and questions on author’s purpose.

Venn diagram to Real World:

This graphic organizer has students compare the events of the novel to a similar event in the real world. Students are encouraged to make real world connections and explore perspectives on why an author might choose to highlight social issues in works of fiction.
