18- page handout includes three tests
• A 50 short-answer question test with additional essay questions. Most questions may be answered in 1-3 words. Because the questions are listed in the same order as they appear in the book, it is a good assessment to determine if students actually read the book instead of reading plot summaries, getting information from other students, etc. After grading the test, it will be obvious if students read only part of the book, if they skimmed the book, or if they read the book thoroughly.
• A 20 identifications / definitions test (Form A and Form B)
If you want to determine if a student actually read a book, these types of assessment are much more effective than multiple-choice tests where students can guess answers or essay tests where good writers can often bluff their way through the topics. The download includes the tests, answer sheets, and answer keys.
• 10 essay topics - Teachers can allow students to choose essay topics from the list, or teachers can assign specific essay topics. Since the essay topics are open-ended, no key is given for essay topics.
