This assignment includes differentiated primary sources from the Hindu texts along with a thorough description of the origins and history of the Hindu Caste System. I have meticulously modified the primary source to accommodate for different reading levels. One handout is intended for middle school level readers while the other set is for high school level readers. The academic vocabulary is underlined and the content vocabulary is in bold. Following the handouts is an assignment requiring students to visually extend the Code of Manu metaphor of the caste system as a human body, by creating a caste man or caste woman with clothing, accessories, and props that show the role(s) of each caste.
