This script was written for 4 students. It was written to teach or reinforce a lesson about Cinco de Mayo. In the script, Sofia is excited because her mom has told her they will be going to a Cinco de Mayo party and she might even let her stay home from school. Michael doesn’t think that is very fair and Cindy thinks that Cinco de Mayo is about Mexico’s Independence but José explains that it is about an amazing battle that took place when France invaded Mexico. Sofia helps to fill in some of the details of the battle and explains how people celebrate it. Michael asks if Cinco de Mayo is like Saint Patrick’s Day where everyone can celebrate and Sofia offers to ask her mom to let Michael and Cindy come with them to the party. There is a short writing prompt at the end of the script.
I marked this as a 3rd grade script but there will be some words that they will need help with. I use reader's theaters to encourage my students to practice fluency. It is a fun way to do something that they need. Most of my scripts are in black and white so they photo copy easily. This one DOES have a color picture on front but that is all. The problem with many other reader's theaters is that students spend a lot of time waiting for their part. When you have a small group they get more practice in and less off task behaviors take place.
