Have your students ever wondered why we celebrate Halloween? Do you ever ask them that question? Many adults don't know why we have October 31st as a special day and very few children understand that. My resource is a non-fiction story of the history of Halloween, including information about the Celts and the Christians of the 9th century. It includes reasons why pumpkins, costumes and treats are part of the celebration in 2016 America. Included is a vocabulary list of words that may not be familiar in the text. I put in the definitions, but also a page of just the words for teachers who wish their students to look up the meanings. I have a fifteen question section with a answer key. A few of the questions are opinion ones. In our country there is now a movement among some parents to eliminate the celebration of Halloween or to modify that, and this text might give students thought to why that may be going on.
