Popcorn is one of America’s favorite snack foods, being regularly consumed both at home in front of the television and at the movie theater for over 70 years. A uniquely American food invention served by the Pilgrims at the first Thanksgiving, popcorn traces its history back to the native cultures of North and South America that lived 5,000 years ago. This informational reading passage clearly presents students with all the history of popping corn from ancient to modern times in a way they will enjoy and learn from.
